In 1985, at age 41, the artist, a deeply spiritual man, found himself suddenly filled with an awakened recognition of God's wholeness, which yearned for expression. Gaugy commenced sharing his vast new understandings in the monumental scale of the gymnasium space, employing his unique carved medium. He believed that the symbolic language of art was capable of conveying profound meaning without the limitations of language and religious dogmas.
